Significance of The Berlin Wall The Berlin Wall, built in August of 1961, was s physical symbol of the political and emotional divisions of Germany. The Wall was built because of a long lasting suspicion between the Soviet Union on one side and Western Europe and the United States on the other. While West Berlin became a lively urban area like many American cities, East Berlin became what many thought of as a ‘Mini-Moscow’. The shelves in the stores were practically bare, and what was there was not in very good quality.

That decision was to put up a barrier between them, their people and the rest of the world.
The barrier would be constructed of barbed-wire fencing, stretched over seventy-nine miles, and separated the people from their friends and families.
After the first world war Germany was punished heavily with reparations and having to reduce the size of their armed forces, and at the end of the second world war it would be no different.
Of course they had to pay reparations but the countries that fought with Hitler would also lose territory and Germany would be no different....
Western Capitalism, which was more powerful, eventually defeated the system.
The massive wall that did so much harm to a country was finally destroyed, and the people of Germany could now live the way they all wanted to live. Since the fall of the Berlin Wall East Germany has went through a lot of changes, and it still is not easy for all of the people in East Germany. The United States, Great Britain, and France were all capitalist and democratic, and the Soviet Union was communist. The United States, Great Britain, and France all were part of the same “team.” The Soviet Union, however, wanted nothing to do with the others, so they decided to build a wall around their sector to keep the others out and their people in. The Berlin Wall went up in the middle of the night, 2 a.m. It was, at first a low barbed wire fence, and then workers They had just enough fuel to make it over to the West side, which took them a few hours. The United States, Great Britain, and France controlled the three divisions that were formed in the Western half and the Eastern half was controlled by the Soviet Republic. The Western sections eventually united to make a federal republic, while the Eastern half became communist. This happened during the Cold War; the cold war lasted for about 47 years. The West side was democratic and the East side was communist. The Creation of the Berlin Wall The end of World War II triggered the start of the Cold War.The victors of WWII, The United States, Great Britain, France and the Soviet Union divided Germany and Berlin into four. But no matter how hard it is for the people of East Germany now, it is better than being alone and separated from their families, friends and rest of Europe.- In the middle of the night, on August 13, 1961, the Communist government of East Berlin had made a decision that would change not only East Berlin, but the rest of the world.
